Philosophy of Teaching

I believe that anyone can learn to play, enjoy and appreciate music. My goal is to tap into each student’s potential and realize their musical goals. Learning to play a musical instrument is many faceted. It involves the mental, physical and spiritual. My approach is thorough and comprehensive and reflects my belief in the idea of learning from the inside out. Private lessons focus on repertoire, technique, artistry, keyboard skills and improvisation. In the group setting, we cover ear training, composition, theory and music history. Students prepare and perform a piece from their repertoire.  Although the emphasis is on classical music, the curriculum is tailored to the student’s interests and goals. Ultimately, students become independent learners who enjoy music making for a lifetime.
